FIRE CHIEF
The Town of Oak Bluffs is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Fire Chief. Under the administrative direction of the Select Board, the Fire Chief in accordance with MGL Chapter 48, Section 42A, is responsible for emergency response, daily administrative management and financial planning of the Oak Bluffs Fire-EMS Department.
A historically summer resort town, Oak Bluffs has a year-round population of 4,800 which can increase up to 30,000 in the summer months, covering an area of 7.4 sq. miles. The Department currently employs 10 full-time EMS personnel and approximately 70 per diem EMS and volunteer on-call firefighters.
The successful candidate will be a professional, command level Fire Officer, with demonstrated experience leading a municipal Fire-EMS department, who embraces a high level of personal and departmental accountability. The position requires extensive knowledge of fire suppression and prevention, emergency medical services, and emergency management; along with the ability to motivate and lead department personnel; maintain harmonious relationships with stakeholders, local agencies and businesses; communicate productively with Town, State and elected officials, and be responsive to the needs of the community. Experience in labor management is an advantage.
Candidate must establish residency on the island of Martha’s Vineyard within twelve months of appointment. Compensation by negotiated contract including comprehensive benefits package.
Minimum qualifications include but not limited to:
· Seven to ten years of progressive experience as a member of a Fire Department.
· Minimum of five years’ experience at a supervisory or command rank.
· Advanced Fire Officer training to include at a minimum Fire Officer 2 and Fire Instructor 1 certification (F/O 3 preferred).
· Paramedic or Emergency Medical Technician (past acceptable, current preferred)
· A working knowledge of the Massachusetts Comprehensive Fire Safety Code, 527 CMR 1.00 (Fire Prevention Officer certification preferred).
· NIMS/ICS Command level certifications.
· Experience working with a Call/Volunteer system strongly preferred.
