Town of Brookline, New Hampshire hiring a Fire Chief

The Town of Brookline, New Hampshire population of approximately 5,773 residents is seeking highly
qualified candidates for the position of Fire Chief. Brookline is a small community located 12
miles west of Nashua, NH. The Brookline Fire Department (BFD) covers a response area of 20.2 square
miles and operates 11 pieces of apparatus from one fire station. The Department has an ISO rating
of Class 8b. The organization employs 1 full-time fire inspector, 1 part-time administrative
assistant and approximately 30 on-call employees. The Department responded to 224 calls in 2024
with 24 being EMS responses. The BFD operates with a five hundred twelve-thousand-dollar ($512,000)
budget.

The Fire Chief provides strategic direction, administrative leadership, and operational oversight
for all Fire Department functions. Responsibilities include operations management, personnel
supervision, policy development, and budget oversight. The Fire Chief is appointed by and operates
under the general supervision of the Board of Fire Wards.

The Fire Chief is an integral part of the Town’s leadership team. Applicants must have a minimum of
five years of fire service experience, of which at least three are in a responsible command
position (equivalent to Captain or higher). A bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Fire Science,
Emergency Management, Business or Public Administration is preferred. Candidates are required to
have or obtain, NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, EMT-Basic certification, ProBoard/NH. certification as
Firefighter I/II, Fire Officer II, Fire Inspector I and a CDL B License with a air brake and tank
endorsement. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Applicants must possess strong labor/management, leadership and communica\on skills and have a
strong background in fire service opera\ons and administra\on with a similar fire service
organiza\on. Residency is required within 20 miles of the Town of Brookline within twelve months of
appointment. Salary range $90,000- $110,000. The Chief is a critical part of operational response
and is on-call 24/7 and expected to work around the needs of the Town.
