Passing of former Hanson Fire Chief Rev. Allen P. Hoyt

Rev. Allen P. Hoyt, 70, resident of Milford, NH, died at his home on Sunday, November 3, 2024.

He was born on May 7, 1954, in Brockton, MA, a son of the late Francis and Shirley (Perkins) Hoyt.

A Graduate of West Bridgewater High School, he joined the West Bridgewater Fire Department as a volunteer Fire fighter and then enlisted in the Navy and served as a Corpsman in Vietnam. 

Following his military service, Al began a lengthy career as an EMT and Firefighter with the towns of Plymouth and Hanson Massachusetts, earning a degree in Fire Science from Cape Cod Community College and ultimately retiring as Fire Chief from Hanson Fire-Rescue. 

Following his extensive career as a Firefighter, Al earned two degrees in Divination from the Andover-Newton Theological School and was ordained a UCC Pastor, serving the town of Milford New Hampshire at the First Congregational Church, UCC of Milford. 

Al was a former Boy Scout, an active Freemason with the DeWitt-Clinton Masonic Lodge of Sandwich MA as well as Benevolent Lodge #7 of Milford, a Drum Major with the Highland Light Scottish Pipe Band, and was heavily involved with several charity organizations including the Milford New Hampshire Rotary Club. 

Al enjoyed a multitude of hobbies and interests outside of his careers which he pursued with vigor including Fishing, Camping, Cycling, (having completed 3 Pan Mass Challenges), Reading, Woodworking, Traveling, Music, History, Animals, the Red Sox, and countless more.

He will be remembered for his deep love of family and friends, his incredible sense of humor, and his life dedicated to civil service.

Al is survived by his loving wife, Verna Ross-Hoyt of Milford, NH, his daughter and son-in-law, Jacqui and Tim Pickering of Middleboro, MA, Son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Natalie Hoyt of Elburn, Illinois, daughter and son-in-law, Kristin and Christopher Smith of Lebanon Connecticut, eight grandchildren, two brothers, Karl (Marilyn) and Glenn (Nancy) Hoyt and sister, Laura Vigeant (Mark).
