National weather survey focused on improving fire weather products and services provided by National Weather Servicer (NWS)

FCAM members encouraged to complete the survey to help improve weather information such as Red Flag Warnings and Fire Weather Watches.

Hello,

My name is Dr. Stephanie Hoekstra, and I’m a social science researcher at Colorado State University, working in collaboration with NOAA’s Global Systems Laboratory. We’re conducting a national survey focused on improving fire weather products and services provided by the National Weather Service (NWS), such as Red Flag Warnings and Fire Weather Watches.

We’re hoping your organization might be willing to help us share this opportunity with professionals in your network who are involved in fire operations. This could include distribution through a newsletter, listserv, social media post, or any other outreach channels.

About the Survey: The goal of this research is to better understand how fire professionals use fire weather information operationally in the lead-up to high-risk wildfire days. Participant insights will directly inform the future design and communication of key NWS fire weather products, and results will be shared back with NWS forecast offices to help better meet user needs.

If you’re able to help us spread the word, we’d be deeply grateful. We’re committed to ensuring diverse fire community voices are heard, from federal, state, tribal, and local partners alike.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions or if you’d like more information about the study.

Thank you for supporting this important work!

Warm regards,

     Stephanie
