Please keep the members of the Morrill Fire Department and fire departments across Maine in your thoughts and prayers. They are mourning a devastating loss following the death of FF Cross, while several others remain in critical condition.
The FCAM executive board extends its condolences to the family of FF Cross and the Searsmont Fire Department. Twenty-five fire department, mostly volunteer department responded to aid Searsmont Fire Department at the lumber yard fire.

Andrew Cross, a 27-year-old firefighter with the Morrill Fire Department, died in an explosion at Robbins Lumber in Searsmont, Maine, on May 15, 2026. The explosion occurred during a fire in a wood-shaving silo and led to a mass-casualty incident that injured at least 10 others.
