Death of Francis “Frank” Duffey, Father of Fire Chief Scott Duffey, Rockland Fire Department

FCAM Officers and members extend sympathies to Chief Scott Duffey and his family on the death of his Farther. Please keep him and his family in your prayers.

Francis “Frank” Duffey, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and dedicated member of the Rockland community, passed away surrounded by the love of his family.

Frank was born in South Boston, Massachusetts, the son of the late Francis S. Duffey and late Mary Kelly Duffey. He grew up in Hanson, Massachusetts, on the shores of Monponsett Pond, where he spent his formative years and where he would eventually meet the love of his life, Betsy Donnelly.

Frank and Betsy were married for 57 years. Their marriage was built on a lifetime of love for each other, family, and friendship.

Frank was the devoted father of Laura Jean Duffey (husband, Larry Ryan), of Galveston, Texas, and Scott Duffey (wife, Karen Duffey) of Rockland, Massachusetts. He was the proud Papa of three grandchildren, Sean Ryan of Houston, Texas; Caite Aldrete (nee Ryan) and her husband, Eric Aldrete, of Houston, Texas; and Emily Duffey of Rockland, Massachusetts. His grandchildren brought him tremendous joy, and he cherished every opportunity to spend time with them and follow their lives.

He was the brother of the late Maureen Barry of South Boston; Paul Duffey and his wife, Judy Duffey, of Hanson, Massachusetts; and Nancy Davis and her late husband, Charles Davis, of Sandwich, Massachusetts.

Frank worked as a welder in the Boston shipyards, and then later worked as a sheet metal worker, where he used his skill and craftsmanship to build horse trailers for Kingston Trailers.

Frank took great pride in his home and yard. He loved working outside and could often be found trimming, planting, and tending to his property. For Frank, yard work was more than a chore—it was something he genuinely enjoyed.

Beyond his work and family, Frank will be remembered for his generosity and commitment to his community. He volunteered his time with numerous organizations in Rockland and was always willing to lend a hand when his community needed him.

Frank served as the equipment manager for Rockland Youth Football, and also played an important role in the Rockland Youth Commission’s annual Operation Goblin safe Halloween program. He also volunteered with the local community access cable channel as a camera operator, helping televise Rockland Youth Football games and Select Board meetings.

Frank will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his strong work ethic, his pride in his home, his willingness to help others, and his many years of service to the Rockland community. His greatest legacy, however, will be the family he loved dearly and the countless people whose lives he touched through his generosity and volunteerism.
