President’s Message
As the summer slowly grows to an end and we look towards the fall, we approach
a date that none of us will ever forget. This year we will recognize the 25 th
anniversary of the attacks on our country. The date September of 11, 2001 evokes
so many memories and thoughts of anguish. It also reminds me of what our
mission is every day.
We have all heard the stories of bravery and heroism by the members of the
FDNY and their pursuit to save lives in those towers on that tragic day. We all
watched as members of the fire service, utterly horrified as those towers fell and
knew deep down that the loss of life would be catastrophic.
Out of the ashes of that day we also heard stories of sheer heroism and sacrifice
by so many of our brothers and sisters. Weather it be the story of Capt. John
Jonas and his crew of L6 descending stairway B along with a terrified and injured
civilian and making there way with her to safety. The story of Father Michael
Judge, killed while administering last rights to the severely injured outside of the
towers.
So many stories fill our minds at this time of year, please always remember the
sacrifices made on that day as well as the days prior and since, that make our
chosen profession truly a calling
