Good Morning,
I’m reaching out to provide an update and to share important information regarding a tragic training incident involving Chelmsford Firefighter Nick Spinale.
Firefighter Spinale, age 28, has proudly served the Chelmsford Fire Department for the past two and a half years and has quickly become a dedicated and valued member of our organization. On the morning of Tuesday, April 7, while carrying out his duties as an instructor at the Massachusetts Fire Academy, Nick sustained severe and life-altering injuries during a training exercise. While training fellow firefighters, he fell approximately 40 feet from a window, resulting in critical injuries that have significantly impacted him and his family.
As a result of this fall, Nick suffered multiple severe injuries, including facial fractures, significant internal organ damage, and fractures to both wrists. He is currently undergoing extensive medical treatment and will require multiple surgeries, followed by a long and challenging period of rehabilitation.
On behalf of the Chelmsford Fire Department, I want to express how truly appreciative and grateful we are for the overwhelming support, prayers, and outreach efforts that have poured in from across the fire service community and beyond. The solidarity shown by our fellow chiefs, firefighters, and communities has been deeply meaningful to Nick, to his family, and to every member of our department during this difficult time.
Many of you have reached out asking how you can further support Firefighter Spinale and his family.
For those wishing to do so, I have included Nick’s GoFundMe page below, with the funds raised going directly toward supporting his ongoing medical care, rehabilitation, and recovery.

Once again, our thoughts and prayers remain with Nick and his family, and we continue to pray for his strength and a full recovery. I am also forever grateful for the unwavering support of the Fire Chiefs Association of Massachusetts (FCAM) and the Massachusetts fire service as a whole. Your compassion and brotherhood truly exemplify what this profession stands for.
Thank you for your continued support.
Respectfully,
Gary
