MESSAGE FROM THE MA STATE WIDE INTEROPERABILITY COORDINATOR -REMINDER OF THE OBLIGATIONS OF NON-LICENSEES THAT OPERATE PART 90 PRIVATE LAND MOBILE RADIO SIGNAL BOOSTERS

All Concerned:

SPEC ATTN: Entities that hold public safety LMR part 90 licenses and operators of signal booster systems (BDA’s)

Please see the attached reminder from the FCC for license holders and operators of part 90 licensed system boosters.

License holders / owners of public safety radio systems are also reminded as part of this to notify BDA operators that the licensee (agency system being amplified) must provide the authorization to operate these amplifiers. These also need to be  registered with the FCC as indicated in the attached document.

For example,  for CoMIRS users, the BDA authorization must come from the state as the license holder, not the local agency who may be a user of CoMIRS, which can be accomplished by filing the Signal Booster Application found at https://www.mass.gov/doc/comirs-signal-booster-application

For locally owned / licensed systems, a similar process may be followed / developed if one does not already exist.

Please feel free to circulate this widely to any agency part 90 licensee and BDA operators as you see fit.
