[ARCHIVED] House Bill 1317

There is a hearing scheduled for July 19 that will not be good for the fire service. House Bill 1317 by Chris Walsh It will take away our input in the code process. The hearing is July 19 @ 10 AM. Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security, Room A-2.

Here is a brief description: "Eliminates the technical code council in GL 143:94 and establishes the  Building Code Coordinating Council in a new section 101 of GL Chapter  143. The BCCC will be comprised of 12 members and is tasked with  comparing and coordinating all existing and proposed construction codes  to eliminate redundancies and conflicts.  The BCCC will have the power  to reject proposed regulations that are inconsistent, conflicting or  redundant.  Further, the BCCC is directed to establish procedures for  considering public comment and for submission and approval of proposed  regulations."

It would be nice to have a large number of chiefs in the room in Class A uniforms as to express our displeasure with this bill.
