Action Required: Contact Senators to Support SCBA Amendment

The Fire Chief Association of Massachusetts (FCAM) urges you to contact your state senator to support Sen. Moore’s proposed amendment to Chapter 182 of the Acts of 2024. The language, which he plans to file as part of the supplemental closeout budget, would allow manufacturers and dealers to continue selling and repairing self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBAs) in Massachusetts.

Without this change, restrictions under the law would prevent manufacturers and dealers from selling or repairing this essential equipment in the Commonwealth.

Firefighters depend on functioning SCBAs to breathe safely while fighting fires and responding to other hazardous incidents. Any disruption to equipment availability or repairs could put firefighters at risk and affect departments’ ability to respond safely.

Please ask your legislators to support Sen. Moore’s language and ensure it remains in the final supplemental budget. We need this essential equipment available to protect the firefighters who depend on it every day.
