Town of Derry, NH seeks applicants for Assistant Fire Chief position

POSITION: Assistant Fire Chief
COMPENSATION: Salary range is $112,715 – $146,578. Starting salary will depend on qualifications.
DESCRIPTION: The Town of Derry, NH (Pop. Approx. 34,000) is seeking highly qualified
candidates for the position of Assistant Fire Chief. Under direction of the Fire
Chief, the Assistant Fire Chief is responsible for planning, directing, and
coordinating all fire service activities, with a focus on daily operations and the
standards and technology required to provide exemplary fire and emergency
medical services to the community.

The Derry Fire Department is a 78-member full-service department, operating
within a $14.6M budget to provide prevention and response services through five
integrated areas – Fire Suppression and Technical Rescue, Emergency Medical
Services, Emergency Communications, Fire Prevention, and Emergency
Management. Our mission is to plan for emergency incidents and events; to
prevent those incidents from occurring, and when we are unable to prevent them;
to provide the highest level of fiscally responsible, effective, and efficient services
to enhance the health, welfare and safety of our community.

Responding to over 5500 calls for service annually, we operate out of four fire
stations located throughout the Town. Our daily line staffing model consists of 15
16 Firefighter/EMT/Paramedics who are cross-trained to provide dual-role
services on a Paramedic Engine or Ladder Company, and/or an ALS Ambulance.
We are the only Fire Department in the State of New Hampshire to have achieved
accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services
(CAAS) and are highly respected for our excellence in service.

The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree with at least ten years of
progressively responsible experience in the fire services; proven leadership skills;
a high level of integrity and accountability; and strong communication and
interpersonal skills to establish and maintain positive working relationships, both
internally and externally.
