His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Ann Church, Holy Family Parish on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. The burial will be held in Dolliver Memorial Cemetery, Gloucester.
Daniel Kennedy, a 60-year-old retired lieutenant from the Gloucester Fire Department in Massachusetts, passed away on February 11 after being involved in a tragic accident. The incident happened on February 5 near the University of Massachusetts Lowell South Campus, when he was struck by a Lowell Police Department cruiser while walking on Wilder Street. He was rushed to the hospital for treatment but sadly succumbed to his injuries.
Kennedy had dedicated 28 years to the Gloucester Fire Department before retiring in 2023. As a proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran, he had recently returned to school at UMass Lowell with a meaningful goal: to earn a degree and pursue a career helping veterans, firefighters, police officers, and others facing mental health challenges. His union, Gloucester Firefighters Local 762, remembered him as someone with a huge heart and a lifelong commitment to serving others.
This loss has deeply affected his colleagues, friends, and community. Former Chief Steve Aiello described him as a kind, compassionate “teddy bear of a guy” who was brave and always aimed to do his best.
