MEMORANDUM

TO: Western Mass Fire Chiefs

FROM: Most Reverend William D. Byrne, Bishop of Springfield DATE: July 22, 2025

RE: Jubilee Year Blue Mass

In this Jubilee Year of Hope, I would like to you invite you and the men and women of your  department to join me in honoring and praying for you and for your service to our communities. I  am asking you to join me for a Blue Mass to be held at St. Michael’s Cathedral in Springfield on  Saturday, September 13th at 4pm. I am inviting both active and retired members of your  department. I also welcome members of your family and friends to join us as well.

I would kindly ask for those who are able, to dress in Class A Uniforms and gather no later than  3:30pm in the Bishop Marshall Center connected to the Cathedral Church where you will line up  for a short procession into the Cathedral Church. Color Guard from Springfield Fire and Police  Departments will lead the procession.

If you have any questions or need further information, please contact the Rector of the Cathedral  and Chief Chaplain of the Springfield Fire Department, Fr. Gary Dailey. He can be reached either  by email at g.dailey@diospringfield.org or by cell phone at 413-448-1172. If it’s possible, please  let Fr. Dailey know how many would be attending from your department so we can prepare  properly in the cathedral and for the reception that will follow the Mass in the Bishop Marshall  Center.

I hope you will be able to join me on September 13th so that the Diocese of Springfield can  celebrate your important work in keeping our communities safe and assure you of our prayers.
