William P. Conway, 86, passed away at home Monday, April14, 2025 after a period of declining health. Bill was born June 19, 1938 in Lynn to his late parents, William P. And Beatrice A. (Cameron) Conway. A life-long Lynner, he was a 1956 graduate of Lynn English High School. After graduating from the Bentley School of Business, he worked in the mortgage department at Essex Bank & Trust Co. In 1964 he joined the Lynn Fire Dept. and retired in 1999, after serving in every rank, including a time as Acting Chief. He was a member of IAFF Local 739 and the Lynn Firefighters Relief Association.
Bill was an avid history buff, of both the fire service and of Lynn. He had presented many lectures on various subjects about the history of Lynn over the years. He was a member and past president of the Lynn Historical Society and served over 20 years as a Trustee for the Lynn Public Library. He was a long-time usher at St. Pius V parish and was a volunteer at the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the St. Mary’s food pantry. He was a Life Member of the Box 52 Association.
Bill enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren in New Hampshire. He was always willing to assist a friend or neighbor in need.
He was pre-deceased by his sister, Joan Raney of Salem. He was the former husband of the late Joanne (Moylon) Conway. He leaves behind three sons, William T. and his wife Richelle of Concord, NH; Robert B. of Hermosa Beach, CA; and Richard A. and his wife Kathleen of Nashua, NH; as well as four grandchildren, Liam, Grace, Dylan, and Meghan. He also leaves his long-time companion, Sheila Beliveau.
Visiting hours will be in the Cuffe McGinn Funeral Home 157 Maple St, Lynn on Friday, April 18, 2025 from 10am-1pm with a funeral service immediately following at 1pm. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Lynn.
